Royal Black Encampments of the Knights of Malta
The Knights of Malta are a very small organisation that generally acts as an appendant body to the Independent Orange Order.
Branches of this organisation are called 'Royal Black Encampments'.
They are led by a 'Supreme Grand Commander'.
Members are referred to as 'Companions'.
The Knights of Malta trace their history back to the Scottish Reformation, and then beyond that to the Crusades.
Their regalia is very similar indeed to that used by the Royal Black Institution
(the most outwardly visible exception being that their collarettes bear the designation 'RBE' - rather than 'RBP').
In addition to organising church parades, the Knights of Malta stage an annual 'Beacon-Lighting Ceremony'.
There is presently one Royal Black Encampment active in and around the Greater Bushmills Area.
